Events on the Eastern Trail - 2019

Happy people enjoying the Eastern Trail!

There are many fun events that take place on a regular basis on the Eastern Trail! You can also find additional events on our online ETA Calendar.

Help us develop new activities on the trail:

  • Consider leading an activity on the trail — a walk, a bicycle ride, OR a birding expedition. Please This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with your idea!
  • Consider hosting an event on the trail that takes advantage of its fine resources. An example of such an event is the Snowy Egret Run/Walk for the Marsh, held on the Trail each Memorial Day weekend. Such events need to fill out a Event Request Application.

Events on this page are organized with Trailwide events first, then specific sections:  So. Portland-Scarborough-OOB-Saco, Biddeford-Arundel-Kennebunk, and Eliot, South Berwick, Berwick, Kittery, North Berwick, Wells.  At times we will also list other interesting Maine, New England region and national trail events here.

Upcoming Trailwide Events:

  • Maine Lighthouse Ride — Saturday, September 7, 2019. This is our premier event for the year, and we will once again cap the ride at 1200 registered riders! We sell out each year, so please register early. If you do not wish to ride and still want to participate, please consider volunteering to help support the ride. More information here.
  • The Loop and Lunch rides on the trail are back for 2019. More information below as well as on the Loop and Lunch Rides web page.

Upcoming So. Portland-Scarborough-OOB-Saco Section Events:

  • Monday, May 27, Snowy Egret 5K Run/Walk, Scarborough, 8:30 am; Peterson Field, 135 Old Blue Point Rd (map). The 11th Annual Snowy Egret 5K returns to Scarborough Marsh and the Eastern Trail on Memorial Day 2019! The Snowy Egret 5K is the primary annual fundraiser for Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center, with additional proceeds benefiting Eastern Trail Alliance. The 5K course covers both pavement and dirt paths along the Eastern Trail. More information and Registration here.
  • Saturday, June 8, first Loop and Lunch Ride for 2019, Bug Light, S Portland Greenbelt Pathway, South Portland (map). Rides starts at Bug Light in South Portland taking the ET Greenway to Wainwright Field then on the road on Highland Avenue to Black Pint Road tp Prout's Neck, back to 77, right at Sprague Estate entrance and back to 77 and then to Two Lights and back to 77 with a stop at C-Salt for lunch before returning to Bug Light.
    Check-in begins at 9 a.m. and ride starts at 9:30 a.m. More information here.
  • Monday, June 17, Full Moon Walk, Scarborough, 8-9:30 pm; Pine Point Parking Lot - Scarborough (map). Join the Eastern Trail representative look for animals, learn about the trail, enjoy conversation and walk in the light of the full moon. Please leave your devices behind and enjoy the peace of the trail. FMI please call 207-284-9260. No Flashlights or Pets Please. Please check our FaceBook page for possible cancellation.
  • Saturday, August 24, second Loop and Lunch Ride for 2019. This ride starts on Clark Street at Thornton Academy on the Eastern Trail and goes to Scratch Bakery Cafe in South Portland for lunch before heading back to Saco. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. and ride starts at 9:30 a.m. More information here.
  • Saturday, October 19, final Loop and Lunch Ride for 2019. This is the annual Tweed or Crazy Sweater Ride that starts at Wainwright Field in South Portland, crosses the Scarborough Marsh on the ET, then we take the road into Old Orchard Beach to Route 9 Camp Ellis and on to Saco to have lunch at Cia. After lunch we return to Wainwright on the ET. More information and updates will be posted here.

Upcoming Biddeford-Arundel-Kennebunk Section Events:

  • No events scheduled at this time.

Upcoming Eliot, South Berwick, Berwick, North Berwick, Wells Section Events:

  • Saturday, September 28, third Loop and Lunch Ride for 2019. This ride will be a Kittery to South Berwick loop on the Eastern Trail. More information will be posted here, including meet up location.

Here are some exciting group trail events planned for 2019:

      • Maine Lighthouse Ride — Our Biggest Event takes place September 7, 2019. This is our premier event for the year, and once again will be capped at 1200 registered riders! Each year we sell out early, so register now! Three great ride options:
        • Century  (100-mile) 7:30 am (See all 9 lighthouses.)
        • 62-mile   (metric century) 8:15 am (8 lighthouses visible)
        • 40-mile   9:00 am (8 lighthouses visible)
      • Lunch and Loop Rides are back for 2019. To acquaint participants with the beauty of the Eastern Trail and increase two-wheeled camaraderie, the Eastern Trail Alliance will sponsor from three to five bike rides. To allow riders to enjoy Maine’s seasonal changes, ride organizer Russ Lamer will lead them from Spring through Fall. More information here.
      • Happy people enjoying the Eastern Trail!ET Moonlight treks are scheduled throughout the year, often every month -— walking in the summer, snowshoeing and skiing as possible in the winter.

Other Maine, New England Region and National Trail or Related Events:

  • May is National Bike Month, which includes an ever-expanding diversity of events in communities nationwide — but the biggest day of the month is Bike to Work Day. In 2019, Bike to Work Week will be May 13–19, with Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 17. Go here for more information from the League of American Bicyclists.
